My Passion Peice Artist Statement
In the world, there are many solutions and actions we can take to the air pollution crisis however they all come at some sort of a cost, either to your wallet or, to your lifestyle, or to your own personal political ideology. However, the purpose of this project isn't to tell you how you should be living your lives, or say what everyone should be buying to help lower emissions by a fraction of a percent, My goal is to inform on what is currently happening in the world regarding the air pollution crisis.
I was surprised to learn that Colorado holds the title of having the sixth-worst air in the nation, right behind California, Arizona, Utah, Nevada, and Illinois.
I was surprised to learn how filthy most of Colorado's air is since it's known as one of the more natural and wild states, If there is one thing I’ve learned while researching and doing this project, is that clean air is a 1st world privilege, Us here in the United States don't exactly feel the full effects of the air pollution problem, Where they are feeling it the strongest is in the middle east and Northern Africa. I created a map of all the countries and colored them from the most polluted to the least polluted, from warmer to colder colors. The five most polluted countries in the world are Chad, Iraq, Pakistan, Bahrain, and Bangladesh. The cleanest countries are Iceland, Australia, New Zealand, Estonia, and Finland.
I chose to represent my feelings on the climate state by doing as much damage to my foot model as I could, but not too much damage as to where it looks like a pile of burnt plaster.
I chose the topic of air pollution because it is something I feel very passionate about, I understand that clean air is a first-world privilege, and my main motivation for this project is to learn more about how the air pollution crisis is globalized.
I decided to actually burn my foot to show and represent a world without clean air, I tried to make look as dystopian as possible in order to get my point across and inform people about the issue.
My project well relates to globalization and what we've been learning because it shows the transition from the West to the East and how air pollution increasingly gets worse the further East you go. If there's one thing I learned while doing my research on this topic is that things are most likely going to get worse before they get better, what I mean is that it's going to take more depletion of our natural resources in order to make people in the west realize how bad this whole air pollution situation really is. I believe that in the near future if they lower the prices of electric vehicles maybe more people will commit and make some changes to the way they live their lives. I used various websites in my research mainly IQAir, which showed not only the most polluted countries in the world but also th most polluted cities, Durango ranks in at about seven-thousandth place for air quality in the United States.
